How to become a Rock and Roll Star, (pub singer)

My story starts back in the long hot summer of 1976. I was 12 years old and not really into music at all until the new neighbours moved in across the road. Claude Truby and his brother Tony introduced me to their world. They had a brother who was in the army and every time he came home on leave he would bring them piles of records by such glorious artists such as The Beatles, Wings, The Eagles, Status Quo and 10cc. We spent the back end of the school holidays in Claude's bedroom perfecting the art of playing the air guitar or banging on old suit cases pretending to be Cozy Powell.

I knew then that I wanted to be a singer, but there wasn't anything like the X Factor back then, all we had was Hughey Green and Opertunity Knocks and New Faces both tallent shows that back then had the nation gripped to their seats. I had an older brother 7 years my senior and he sorted me out with my own record player and then I started my own record collection. The radiogram in the living room was my Dads but my brother had taken over and this was his domain and dare anyone to touch his collection of Trogan, Blue Beat and Mowtown singles and LP's. (yes kids no CD's back then, they were LP's)

It would be a few more years before I joined a band but at least I was practicing, singing along in my bedroom to ELO and Wishbone Ash and of course my favourite two bands of the time Paul McCartney & Wings and 10cc.
